All movies seem so far off. I hope My Name is Khan has a strong plot and script. We've already seen a lot of emo drama in your K movies. I'm not saying they were bad, but you should try something different na!

Sausalito (cute and classy little twon by the sea) - 10 minutes north of SF. .........the Big Sur - an hour or two south of san francisco the cliff and beach locations are to die for... ... Just thought it might help in your travel!

hm... interesting line up of films on your plate.

'Wake up Sid' sounds interesting... title wise but also because you cast Konkana... I think she is a great actress and falls outside of the usual bland good looks too. I like her very much.

The animation definitely sounds like my thing... I love animations on the whole, they are the most likely to get me into the cinema these days. Having the original cast lend their voices will definitely be a plus. Shah Ruhk Khan has such a wonderful voice (eek.. sorry... I do try not to get too fanatic about him in you blog... it would not be fair ;)

the thriller sounds less my thing... although I do like Saif Ali Khan. Kareena isn't my thing though... the only film she so far managed to convince me in is Jab We Met... but there she was really cute. Sorry to say it but in my opinion she's got the dancing abilities of a rock... and only when thrown hard across the water. I much prefer her sister Karisma... but luckily people like different things and different persons, so for my dislike there will be any number to even it out.

My Name is Khan... well... to be honest... having SRK in it is enough to make sure I'll watch it (sorry sorry sorry). The few things one hears are definitely enough to heighten my curiosity... but I would not even dare to comment on whether it will be a good story. It will certainly be interesting to see how far you dare to deviate from your usual line. Considering KANK I only have to say... be true to yourself and go the full 90 yards ... any compromising for fear of being to risky will surely compromise the story... the way the unnecessary and bland attempts at comedy compromised KANK and its characters. I felt it was there to make the story more palpable...but most of the time it was very heavy handed. (exempting Sam... he was a real treasure)

Hm.. btw... ever considered some kind of fantasy? Dreams come true? Or hopefully not come true... (remember some of your dreams?) Nah... what I have in mind isn't quite your style I think.

I am very much looking forward to the Saif/Kareena/Vivek movie, as well as the Ranbir/Konkona pairing. And of course, the Abhi/Priyanka/John group of Dostana. I like how you pick such unusual but loveable actors and actresses for your films.

Wake Up Sid seems cute, but I don't know if the title will have a lasting appeal. It seems like it might get old after hearing the name a lot of the time.

Lastly, I would love to see you film another movie in Toronto. I never got to catch the Kal Ho Naa Ho crew while you were here!

Hi Karan, your story ideas are exciting as usual! About 'Wake up Sid!' - I gather that the movie is about some sort of a realization vis a vis time and the comprehending of its momentum. I would suggest - 'Good Morning Sid!' or 'Rise and Shine Sid" or 'Get Real Sid!" or something to that effect. Having said that, I must confess that 'Wake up Sid' has a nice ring to it!

I'm really looking forward to all your movies, but in the mean time I just saw the new Batman movie and WOW, it's great, you should definitely see it. We all know that you're the best there is today when it comes to emotional scenes and you've made brilliant love stories, but do you see yourself moving into a different genre? You're the bet there is when it comes to executing emotional scenes (i've never felt the emotion the way I have in your films) and you have a good flair for comedy too and it would great to see this combination in a different genre of films such as an action film. I would honestly like to see how you would make an action film, in fact, it's one thing I'd like to see before I die (im only 20 so you have plenty of time). I think if you made an action film, you'd get right what normal hindi action movies don't and that is substance. Hindi action movies have a handful of cool action scenes, a couple of witty lines, but overall there is no substance in plot, I think you can get the substance right and give us an action movie that can be remembered for the ages. I hope you consider this during the brainstorming process of your future films.

p.s. I know it's too early, but can you get tarun, abhishek, and john to do a commentary track on the DVD of Dostana, I think it would be a great feature on the DVD and fun to watch. I doubt abhishek would say no because thanks to your show we all know how much he loves to talk

There is almost a flag of success...but .....but....but...your announcements about dostana/MNIK would rise expectations about wht you are going to offer and when the expectations are high its hard to please the audiances. You know better, wont you ????

And more importantly if you fail at such an instance - you are gone !! KANK is such an example that brought you lot of ill-fame ..many of your fans hated you after KANK. Do you want that to happen again ??


I ask you, what is the need to talk about My Name is Khan when you have not even started shooting it ???? Why are you talking about a film that is going to release after 1 year from now ???? Ok you've asked a few questions let me start by putting my two cents worth on those.

1- the name wake up sid, ummm I would love to give an informative answer yet can't do that because mainly I have no idea what the title stands for?! does it have to do with the larger meaning of the story? wake up as in grow up, check out the world around you sort of thing? well if it is, and this story is a coming of age then yeah the title is appropriate...otherwise I'm totally oblivious as to the importance or lack of, this title has to the story.

2- Music of dostana...I guess cum September we'd be able to give a better answer to that one also! :)

3- Saif and kareena and global terrorism....I admire Saif...I think he's an acting powerhouse, when he is properly utilized! Films like Omkara, Eklavya, Ek hasina thi... and being cirus were his kind of films...films where he's being silly and "attempting comedy" are not...he is completely wasted in those and I hope this film you are working on has none of that...Kareena I liked very much so and wanted her to star in all her upcoming movies with Shah Rukh, alas recently I've been hearing reports about how arrogant she is and that includes her love interest also...that really put me off her for now...hope she manages to salvage her self because people have very fragile emotions and once those emotions are betrayed they are very very difficult to mend! Vivek I liked in Omkara also and in Yuva... appart from that I haven't seen him much in anything else....and lastly global terrorism? ummm not very sure if I like the sunny deol typical "stuff" so I'll pass on commenting on that!

4- About your animation film ...I like Disney stuff I think it's cute...sadly though I'm too much of an adult to watch cartoons now....but I'm sure the little ones will enjoy uncle Shah Rukh and others play terribly cute character, cuchi cuchi coo lol cute title too I know I'm not using Ks but I'm still too much of a foreigner to start using Ks for Cs .... :)

5- last but not least...MINK what a fancy nick name for a very much anticipated film...Love story :super....social comment :hope it's one that most people agree on...human triumph : who in their right minds won't enjoy that?! I think most will ...the usual NRI local formula seems to be forever hounding you yaar ...can't let go of that one huh? lol oh well at least you've changed cities which is cool I think!! CA is such a beautiful state ... love SF but LA? lol at least stay out of the hood!! Washington DC? oh well I hope this movie is an awesome one...SRK is my all time favorite guy in the world...I watch all his movies even if they were total rubbish...but so far haven't seen any that fit that bill!! :) ..ONE request if I may...please higher decent American actors...who could actually act?! and not sound like they are someone you've picked up from the street corner and gave a 100 bucks to and asked them to read a few lines in your movie!!...sorry dude but those pathetic attempts at being extras let alone actors" were what ruined KANK for me ...it would 've been a very mature film had it not been for the crazy announcer lady...the trailer trash American coach ,,,and that whale of a nurse...I'm sounding harsh here forgive plz but just don't want the same things to tarnish a film that many are so eagerly and anxiously awaiting ...some even for 7 years :O

Don't believe much in karma or luck ....but I can certainly send good wishes dharma's way....and all the best!

Disappointed that you are shooting 'KHAN' extensively in the U.S. People do not care about watching pretty locales anymore, if the story is not interesting. I live in Herndon, Virginia...btw. So it's not sour grapes. You could have used a Middle East connection there, like Mumbai-Jeddah and Los Angeles. SRK could be shown working for a company with a global business in Saudi or something, that is where all the action is in terms of terrorism etc, and it would be truly unique as well.

'Wake up Sid' is a good title, hope u stick with it. Ranbir and Konkona pairing looks interesting. No more Rani and Saif, please!
Only the SRK and Kajol chemistry is worth watching...please avoid using Rani and Preity now with SRK, it's gotten boring. There is no dearth of good female actors in Mumbai. I also think you should cast someone other than SRK in your next directorial venture, I don't know what your relationship is with him. But to outsiders it seems like he may be using you for his benefit. Would he have the same relationship with you if you were not a director? Sorry, if you don't like my saying this.

I love cinema and it looks like a waste of your creativity, energy and resources to use SRK in every directorial venture. Surely, there have to be certain scripts where other actors fit the role better. SRK is just average, he got lucky with scripts offered to him. I can't imagine anyone else doing DDLJ, however I can imagine Aamir doing KANK. Your film would have done better if you had taken Aamir.

This is food for thought. Think about it.

"wake up sid!" is one film i'll b really looking forward to. ranbir and konkona - wow that an amazing combo and also the name is different n catchy. it seem like sid lives in his own dream world and u r asking him to wake up and face the world. pls keep the name - it's very nice.

"thriller with global terrorism" - oh no, not another one!! haven't we seen way too many of these kind of films??? anyways as u have agreed to produce it may b it will have something interesting to offer. i just wish u don't end up producing another film like “kaal”.

looking forward to the music of "dostana". i surely hope they do a good job with “dostana”. as lately after "om shanti om" they haven't done anything outstanding. even the songs of "bachna ae haseeno" r plain average. u have a good ears for music as all your movies has great music – so i have enough faith in u to bring the best from the music directors.

with SRK & Kajol and u at the directors seat - nothing can go wrong with “my name is khan”. Even the name is soooo cool. btw how come u haven’t worked with A.R. Rahman yet?

p.s. watched “jaane tu ya jaane na” yesterday and liked it. such a sweet love story. reminds me of “kuch kuch hota hai” at parts. did u have the same feelings?

It is very nice once again reading your blog. So many people are down on KANK and I really do not understand why is that. For me, you were just bringing out what happens or can happen if you marry without love. Unfortunately, the story of KANK happens to be real life story of some people. The music was great.

I am happy to know that MNIK is a love story and really looking forward for it because you cast my favorite on-screen couple. Your movies always first day, first show is a sold out in NY; you give us dreams and happiness.

film with SAIF and KAREENA would be fantastic. but karan on global terrorism without songs?? i mean saif's career is in a bit of a mess and the media over exposed the couple so much that i think this would be very risky, especially for them. so why don't u plan a nice rom com with good songs with them. they both are mind blowing actors .

race worked but thrillers aren't working and if u look at the polls in indiatimes, indiafm the genre the audience is least interested in watching are the thrillers. so if u want to make a thriller make it with a much safer starcast. this will be too much pressure on SAIF-KAREENA

Now, "Wake up Sid" seems like a nice title. Not exhilarating but nice, and I am looking forward to seeing this one.
Saif and Kareena together - I am really intrigued.
A thriller - you've made me curious !! You are a fantastic story-teller and I loved your stories so far, and a thriller will be interesting, though I have to admit that terrorism ... well it's kind of an "worn-out" subject.

"Wake up, Sid!" is a good title. Simple and full of meaning. Let me guess: is it about the importance of facing life, being honest and open? About courage to pay for your dreams with everyday hard work and inevitable moments of dissapointment? Every fullfilled dream consists of something we don't take into account while just dreaming it... That kind of message? Well I guess I just have to wait and see.

Hi Karan.. This is my first communication with you and i am all thrilled and excited about it.. i dont know if u will ever read it or not.. i hope u do.. First of all.. let me tell u.. ( which ofcourse i know everyone says ) " i am a real fan of urs.. though i did not liek all ur movies.. i really admire u.. and follow everything related to u. u know.. i always think.. what "different" should i say to a celebrity when i meet him or communicate with him/her that he really understands how big a fan i am.. and u know how its with us indians.. we admire ppl from the big screen.. anyways.. enuf of it.. just know this that all my good wishes are always with u.. Right from Kuch Kuch.. when i was in class 9 th.. i like ur work.. and probably.. becoz that was teh first time i fell in love in my life.. she was my batch mate... and i cud just identify with what kajol's character went through in the movie.. the pathos of losing the first love.. and i must say.. u brought it out beautifully on teh screen.. neverthe less to say.. i cried a lot.. watching the movie.. each and every time,...especially when she wore that loud pink and orange dress and ppl made fun of her.. i cant tell u how much i cried on that.. anyways.. K2H2 will always remain a very special film and close to my heart.. I liked kabhi khushi kabhi gham.. but in some parts... liek teh tragedy part was not as good as th eelighter moments.. and u managed to get the best out of kajol.. ( i must add.. rani is my favourite , only after my all time favourite madhuri dixit )
i wont comment on kal ho na ho.. as it was not ur film.. and i did not like the film so much.. i mean it was good .. but k2h2 had something which makes me sit and watch it every time i feel like.. but not kalho na ho.... and i had such big hopes from kabi alvida.. and it all came crashing down.. teh music of teh movie had an awesome pathos mixed with it.. so listening to them.. i really got my hopes up.. but i guess.. u cud not justify maya's and shahrukhs character... but it was a very good attempt.. and i can get the feel of the movie.. just the way u wanted it to b.. but the execution had some thing lacking.. i am sorry.. i am putting my real feelings.. but all ur movies has an emotional click.. which i can always feel.. (probably bcoz i am also very emotionally moved at times..) ok.. i have all my hopes up for ur next movie.. "do ur best " dont get carried away by what the other ppl want.. make teh movie ezactly the way u want it to.. just like u did in k2h2.. and i am sure u willcome out with flying colours.. also i very important request.. "please please cast madhuri dixit in any of ur movies.. i think the talent in her is getting wasted as ppl are not able to get teh best out of her.. please please.. b4 its too late.. please get her in one of ur movie.. and i hope u also agree she is teh best actress indian cinema has ever produced.. u know what i was thinking.. y does not anyone make a comedy with madhuri and kajol.. both are such superb actresses.. imagine both being housewives. and kicking comedy to its best.. anyways thats a random thought,... I would like you to tell about something ....The action of the film the Karan , on which all we wait partly she will happen in New York. The film will tell as I judge not about the threat the terror, and about isolation of nothing not owing people from the environment, to which as they judged surely they belonged. I got the ticket to America long ago to this in the birthday present. I adore, the cinema, music, trips, different cultures. It to give can now, that and the miraculous present. More wrong nothing. The time we alone and our close we be able to not to recognize our needs and preferences. And this only, that is why that we do not dedicate enough the time to listen the own heart. We should remember, that not he will give to learn all. Not all will give to tidy oneself the reason. You should feel some things and matters the heart. But to the thing.. America, the country of the dreams of the people millions. The legend of wealth, prosperity, tolerance and possibility. He was the aim of the trip New York, Wasztngton and Niagara. Before I however reached to New York I stopped in London. It was magnificently, then the city bewitched me. I could boldly say that I had left the piece of the heart there .Odd nothing is place of the spotkań of many cultures, yet. And such sweet snobbery beats from him to this. I spent several days there and did not have the readiness to leave. The time came however to y to get to the airplane and to reach to the aim of the trip at last. The flight the airplane bored me terribly, I was excited. America, New York, I heard so many about this city. I wanted to see this „Eden” at last I Had the reserved room in the hotel on Broadway, it had beautifully to be. The airplane landed on the airport JFK after several hours of the flight happily at last. Leaving the airplane I felt not swojo. This feeling accompanied me by the whole period of the stay in the USA then. This trip the present was this, very expensive and I I did not know oneself before to gladden. I did not know to fall in love this city, it was strange to me. Only what stuck me in the memory from this trip this the fact, that famous „twins”last moments were this. 11.09 came then. This country and this city it be able to not the feeling to show me. It be able to not anything mistresses to spread before me shoulders. When I did not feel sadness from there I left. I went not long then to tour locks over Loarą and Paris. Am I min. Muzeologiem from the education, well now he can be more splendid than running after museums? And again disappointment, all the run nothing Marathon runners we „numbering”next exhibitions and museums. Luwr, all were delighted. All , but not I. I preferred , to run away przewodnikowi to sit in the cafe , to drink good the coffee and to listen Edith Piaf song. He this was for me Paris , locks were nightmarish. I preferred walks after Montmartre than museum halls. They were mine the husband looked at me and did not know what to think about this. He was such exact, all had to according be to the plan. Nothing madness. And as to tour Paris here? Canary Island, Rome, Venice were many different places then. All remembered miles these trips , they were delighting these here and there. And I felt embarrassed. These alone things did not gladden me , what them. From museums, bustling streets, I great cities preferred silence, intimate family atmosphere. That is all this I could not there find. But I did not know this feeling then to name and understand. I thought eventually :it probably not is with me well. I when remember my trips today I see this completely differently. This is not the size of cities or the people number did not answer me but the culture of these societies. Egypt was then although dangerous appeared me charming. When I toured The valley Kings, when I touched the walls of the tomb of one of Pharaohs at last I felt the adrenaline. But I felt in Turkey the best. Every time my airplane landed in Stambule subconsciously I thought , I am at the home. He and is not at all this neither small country neither small city. And the culture so different from this in what I grew. I adore the scent of the streets of Stambułu, local dialects, people. I am afraid not to walk after streets there alone , although the woman herself should not too walk away from the main arteries. I had mnóstwo friends there, all were muslim. I remember to today , how heavily it was fasting in The ramadhan to survive us the day ( it was foolishly to eat me when they fasted). And as the supper tasted in the team of family and friends after dusk. I even began to like the loud voice of the Imam which calling in his faithful to the prayers woke me every the day about the dawn. Although I like long pospać. Muslim -dark eyes , black hair , dark skin this has to equal terrorism. More wrong nothing. They were among my acquaintances and Turks and Kurdowie. One were more different radical in their less the belief. One more as different Europeans still lived they took care of traditions. But all were unusually sincere, devoted, warm and loyal. You should know this environment understand what this is the „brotherhood”. They always kept the given word, and word, honour, family and friendship she meant more than the life. I could leave them 100.000 dollars ask about they did not take care and I could be sure, that when in the year after I will not come back they will wait for me. I could ring in the centre of the night that I came just flying announced and do not have had the room. And all hotels are full. And I could be certain, that Ismail will ring to the brother , this to the cousin, that to the uncle friend and they surely will find some room for me . Nobody left anyone ever without the help . We think Muslim = the terrorist. And and just old Ismail showed me such mosques what nobody watches (I think about tourists). I think all your films, even though they might not always be like-minded with the junta, make a point. & that's the purpose of films, right? To make a point, to tell a story. The characters in it might not always do what people would want them to do but that's why it's your story & not their's.

But OH my.. the one that I am easgerly awaiting is OBVIOUSLY MNIK with srk and Kajol.. The locations you have listed to shoot sound so amazing, very happy to see varied locations in America as well as India. Are you gonna be catching the winter in the US intentionally?

ouuuuuu, nice. MNIK will be coming to DC. Brilliant! But it won’t be out till late next year, eh? *sigh* so far away. It is one of my most, most, most awaited film of next year. I wish you a smooth sailing ahead.

I hope the Saif and Kareena starrer has a solid script and won’t just try to bank on the pair’s coupleness. People will still focus on that. It is coming under your banner so I hope it is good and successful.

I was watching Kabhi alvida naa kehna on tv...and i felt like SIlsila this was a movie made before its time..also it lacked the depth in many places..The last scene b.w SRK and Rani was not at all appealing..Probably a lot more is expected from you..esp after movies like Kal ho na ho!!

I ve been a huge fan of all ur films-- KKHH, K3G(ahhh the number of times I ve watched this films with my other british-indian friends, i was 15-16 when it released and we were nuts over it), KHNH, KANK(a bold attempt that I know wasn't that well received but stuff like that does happen--ppl may like to stay in denial and think it doesn't but it does) and now My name is Khan--i can't wait SRK & Kajol are my fav on screen pair--they are amazingly magical--SRK doesnt have the same chemistry with rani or preity as he does with kajol--perhaps MHN with sush came close--anyways I am sooo looking forward to MNIK.....
ohh and KWK was amazing--I've watched both seasons and to be honest even if the guests weren't my favs you still made the show so enjoyable--the srk ones were all my favs, and the ones with abhi--my friends and I still crack up over the 'I am ready to do anything...." joke...i was an abhi fan after Yuva but ur show made me adore him--so if you can do let him know that..

Just one request...would it be possible to call your next directorial venture just 'Khan' instead of 'My Name Is Khan'.

I, of course, am a nobody and I know zilch about the script so far, but I think a single-worded title like 'Khan', would make a much stronger yet restrained impact. 'My Name Is Khan' seems a little gimmicky.

thriller with saif ali khan and kareena kapoor is the one i am looking forward. both power house performers. kareena is THE BEST. from cute and bubbly to intense to sexy the only actress who can carry off any character with effortless ease.

You sound happy in your update, may many positive chi come your way.

Very glad that you mentioned Konkona as one your leads - she is very underrated as an actress. She is the next best thing after Kajol in the industry currently as far as ACTING is concerned.

As for MNIK - what can I say - perfect news for all SRKKAjol fans, read universal audience! Late 2009 is too far away, though, can't you expedite the production?

Others mentioned about you doing a film with Aamir - that's a great idea. When you do that, you shld cast Kajol against him - if Kunal had blown us away with their chemistry even in a sombre movie FANAA, imagine the wonders you could pull matching these two in comedy scenes.

Both are superb actors with knack of comedy, though Kajol's has not been fully explored by directors sans you in K3G. Not taking away herfriendship with SRK, I think Kajol has mutual respect towards Aamir as a fellow actor, and we don't have to worry about their work relationship, now that Kunal & Adi had thawed them in Fanaa.

May Dharma Productions create a history in new era of filmmaking, similar to what you achived with KKHH 10 yrs ago.

PLEASE do not release 'Dostana' on November 14. 'Fashion' has already been confirmed for a November 14 worldwide release (it is releasing on over 1000 prints) and both films star Priyanka Chopra as the central protagonist. It wouldn't make any sense for two of her films to release on the same day as it would hurt both the films. Please release 'Dostana' at least two weeks before or after 'Fashion'. Priyanka Chopra is my favorite actress and I would really appreciate it if you would please do this.

Since you keep tabs on all the gossip and rumors going on around bollywood, did you hear about the supposed Salman and Shahrukh fight at Katrina's party? What happened and is there any truth to it? The article I read on it sounds very sensationalized as it says shahrukh said something like "teri party mein tere doston ke saamne tujhe maaroonga" and I think that's pure BS. But was there a confrontation at all?

hey karan, nice to know the future plans from dharma production, v cant wait to see them!!! wake up sid seems to be a little too commercial and bland unless if it is a good archetype for the film. anyways great to u see in blogs as u r very intelligent in the film "fraternity" :P I only liked kuch kuch hota hai and kal ho na ho from ur films mainly because that was more real and had a nice message. k3g had a gud message too but the acting was overly done and was glossed too much like it is in ur recent film nowadays. seemed fake, i.e. hint kank, sorry to say.

I really like your movies. KKHH released when i was 8. It was such a phenomenon!! My friends and I used to pretend to be Anjali,Tina and Rahul!! i feel so happy that the SRK-Kajol pair is back again!!

I also liked KANK but with due respect to all cast in the film, I felt that the character of "SAM" was unimportant,it somehow felt off the story and so were the two party songs. Otherwise its an extremely mature film and i absolutely loved the way the title track was picturised. After KANK we all have high expectations from my name is khan!!ALL THE VERY BEST!!

Your projects sound wonderful! I'm not so sure about the title "wake up sid" though. It's hard to say without knowing the story and the type of the movie, but to me the title suggests it's about a stupid guy and people tell him "get real!", if you know what I mean. I'm especially looking forward to watching MNIK, I adore how you always combine love stories/emotions with serious/social topics. And then, it's with Shah Rukh ... :)

Karan, if I send a story to your company will you actually read it? Do some other people have a look at it first for you? What if they turn it down, but you would like it? Do I have to write the whole story like book or can I send you also fragments to make it shorter?

I am sure there are many readers who would like to know what all work goes into making a movie. This is essential as an average cine-goer is not aware of the vast difficulties in making a movie. Once we know about it, we would appreciate each movie much more. Besides who better person other than Karan to explain us the technical side of making a movie.

I'm a first time reader of your blog and beleive me i felt as if i've just seen a trailer of your upcoming movie.
It was just nice to see the buzz in your production house and that itself gives us the opportunity to wait for the best. It was very nice of you to share your workload with your trusted audience.
I have been an avid fan like so many of your movies. 'KANK' was your latest offering and i beleive it was your best work and surely you have outdone yourself. Your acting team..(shahrukh..Rani..Kajol..Preity..) is really great and i want you to stay put with it. I know you will be pressurised to cast new faces or some other pairs but i cant see your movie without the starcast i have just mentioned. Rani Mukherjee has been my fav actress and certainly you gave her the best role and look in KANK. Please Karan write more interesting roles for her. As we all know she is super talented.(I m not promoting Rani, but i want to watch her in your movies and that too in a good role).
I am waiting to get a glimpse of Dostana. It must be a nice young film. Also the starcast looks promising.

This is the first time I'm writing because I barely found out you had a blog. Well let me tell you. first of all, that your blog looks great and its great how you keeps us all up to date with every film.

Secondly, I would like to say, Thank You. Thank you for keeping in mind all those people who's first language is not Hindi. Many of your films such as, KKHH and KKKG has provided a variety of subtitles for people from all over the world to enjoy your films. My family is from El Salvador ( the smallest country in Central America) and they love movies from India. They portray similar values and principles seen in my culture. Hoping that you will read this comment, I would like to take the opportunity to ask if you would continue to provide a variety of subtitles in the upcoming films your production house are producing.

Lastly, Keep up the good work because I love all your films. KANK made me cry like a little girl, since it presents similar situations one has in our own relationships and friendships. When you come to San Francisco let me know so maybe you can sign at least one movie from my collection.

Hi Karan,

Great to know you will be shooting in the San Francisco, Bay Area for your next film. Since I live here, I wanted to share with you some quick local things which can be incorporated into your film if you find them relevant to your story. Maybe they are useless to you, in which case please ignore.

1) Folks who don't live here, call it "Frisco", a big no-no if you are from around here. Short form can be "San Fran" but not "Frisco"
2) The subway called BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is very popular and used here. The subway trains are distinct and different then NY subway trains. You can show somebody in the movie travelling on it. An overhead camera shot of the BART running down East Bay with the bay water behind it will be awesome in the movie.
3) The city of "Sausalito" provides some amazing beauty. It is across the bay from San Francisco. Many people who live in Sausalito, take a 30 minute ferry ride every day to SF City to work. Go to the Ferrie building at Embarcadero in downtown SF and take a Ferrie ride to Sausalito to see for yourself if you get the time.
4) Some must haves in the movie are SF signature "Cable Cars", Golden Gate Bridge (Many people who live in the City "jog across it in the morning), and China Town area can offer some fun places to film at as well.
5) Standford Campus is very beautiful and distinct, in case the story has any college or university scenes.
6) A lot of Indian Professionals live in Fremont City in the Bay Area. You can use that in some reference if needed. Some Indians settled here who don't live in Fremont sometimes say "Fremont! man I would not want to live there, too many Indians". I laugh at that because they need to be shown a mirror. So a potential inside local joke you can use in the movie, because I have seen you use these in some of your other movies.

Just for starters, I really don't care about 90% of the Indian Media and Enetrtainment post 1980. But, there is something about your work and enthusiasm to educate India on controversial topics that makes me believe in you and your ability to open minds about life and it's challenges. I believe that two strangers in completely different parts of the world, completely unknown to each other can be on the same platform and think alike on an everyday basis. Just the other day, I read that you and Kajol were at a book reading of Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I have been struggling to finish this book for a month now.

I live in San Francisco and live in a building that has a really nice rooftop which is used by Hollywood productions many times to shoot films and videos. If you or your staff are interested, please let me know. I do expect something in return- Koffee with you!

One more addition to the fraternity blog!!!Ok good to know about your forthcoming films.I have a very small query/doubt and hope you would clear my doubt.You were known for not fogiving people when they say NO to you.For the same reason you havent taken kareena in any of your movies offlate.Priyanka too said NO to you in kaal.Then how did you cast her in your movie dostana?To be honest priyanka is a very mediocre actress.There are many good actresses in the industry.Apart from aitraz she felt like miscast in every movie she acted.In krish whenever she was in the frame it felt like different movie.she is a total miscast.but for acting she does everything i.e overacting.And by the way please tell her either to modify her taste in dressing or change her designer.Man she has no taste of dressing.

Regarding your film DOSTANA that doesnt sound interesting at all because of your casting.As i told you if the leading lady is somebody else then it would be great and to be honest john is not bad and abhishek is not exciting anymore.He should come of his circle and do different films with diferent heroines.If he acts with same set of ladies they become stale after a while.

Regarding saif-kareena movie that sounds very interesting.Finally you cast her in your movie wow!!!Kareena would have been the best actress to be cast in all your movies.she is versatile and hugely talented.Rani's,preity's ,ash's has lost their charm long ago and priyanka is a total miscast for any film.Before you take priyanka as a leading lady in your movie please give her some acting lessons.She needs to act but not overact!!!


Your last movie KANK is a disaster.Please make sure you dont make such movies in future.

Heroines like sushmita sen and shilpa shetty are not ivsible to you at all.sushmita is a very refined actress i must say very intellectual and posh actress.why dont you make movies with her?watch SAMAY .she has done exceptionally well.

you should come out of srk,kajol,abhi circle and make movies with different people.ranbeer-konkana starrer is a beginning i suppose.Please make sensible and sensitive movies .

Caught up with your last two blogs have to say firstly about awards etc alot of people do complain they are rigged etc but to do be honest one thing i have found werid is watching hollywood and bollywood film is that even though bollywood makes more movies it seems to be alot closer and credits the films that do well that year. Akshay kumar being the prime example hes had few hits this year and managed to get that recognised. Hollywood tends to be better in that they recognise talent but thing is most of the films tend to be ones to be one more critics like that bollywood thats a audiences domain. I love watching awards though more about entertainment.

Its interesting to hear about shortcomings you admit to about industry and interesting that you mention PR i was thinking why does kareena get so hyped after one hit film well two counting K3G where has vidya a very talented actor always put down or not alot said guess that says alot...i like kareena and not saying she has PR machine or bad actor. However India media from entertainment view tends to be alot of articles told as fact even though no truth absolute behind it and sometimes some of the crazy stuff coming out latest i read about harman having jaw surgery to look like hritik!. I do think that needs to change in that entertainment news should be based on some facts atleast or kept simple what people upto etc than make belive.

As for your movies :) so good to hear about cartoon version of kuch kuch hota hai my favourite movie all time after sholay!! so will definetly be looking foward to that. Good luck for the Dharma productions other projects looking foward to Dostana and Khan (Sorry but am not use to your films starting with anything than k :-) ) . It is great to see you said Khan is a love story at core need that especially with srk/kajol back together again but nice to see your growth as director as well.

1)The main protagonist is not a superhero in a sport
2)The protagonists do not sit on a park bench and make life changing decisions
3)The actors don't go outside in a snowstorm or a thunderstorm without umbrella,raincoat etc.

First of all, I have to say how excited I am to see that you have a blog! I love all your movies and you are one of my favourite directors, so being able to read your blog and comment on it is amazing!

Anyway, as for the actual content of this entry: I am very excited to hear about all the movies your production company is putting out next year!

On the title of "Wake Up Sid!", it sounds a little bland. But that's probably because as an American and an English-speaker, titles in Hindi seem different and therefore more interesting to me than titles in English.

The Saif-Kareena movie sounds like it will be very interesting. So does 'Koochie Koochie Hota Hai'! KKHH was the movie that first made me fall in love with Bollywood, so I am very happy about getting to see a new version of it!!

And, of course, I am extremely excited for 'My Name Is Khan'! SRK and Kajol are my favourite actor and actress, so seeing them together again will be great. I'm already making plans to see it when it comes to American theatres in a year or so.

Can't wait for My Name is Khan! I'm a die hard fan of you and of your films, even more. I am a fan of Shahrukh Khan. I love how he's always there for you and how you're always there for him. I loved Koffee With Karan, probably the only show on Indian Television that I actually watched and couldn't wait a week for. When Shahrukh was on your show, which was actually many times, I won't even go to the washroom even if I was going to die. I loved Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. I applaud you for being plucky and touching a very sensitive yet true subject. The only problem though: is that our society is not ready, yet, to accept the reality. All of us do it, but no one wants to admit it. I'm sure My Name is Khan will touch the skies of success. There's no questioning that. Karan Johar, Shahrukh Khan & Kajol = box office hit! Know what? I am sure you would have done the consultations regarding the title begining with"K"- So if you decide to want to retain that- Wake up Sid- could be 'Khwab se Jaag -Sid' or even the song from Teen deviyan- "Khwab ho tum ya koi haqeekat" Maybe after KANK did'nt too well, you might have turned rebelious towards this.
I feel you should stick to what you know best- instead of going offbeat- making the kind of fresh films that you have been churning out. Not that Kank was a bad film- I know what you wanted to portray- but you automatically split the audience when you delve into a delicate issue that is as old as Adam and Eve.
But you have it in you-The pulse or the throb- the difference between loud and subtle- Even though you may have other directors- YOUR Complete involvement ONLY can take the film onto success. Best of luck

ever since the release of the kank dvd i have been hoping to give you e piece of our minds. you my friend owe us a director's cut. how can you give us a srk movie and edit srk out of his own film?

"hallo thank you..." would not have sounded so silly in the climax if you had left a part of his changing in the movie.

srk got so much abuse as bad father because you cut out the final match.

people asked how could rani leave her husband for such a monster when the his talking to the team before the final match shows how much his relationship with rani has changed him.

time was not a factor because the silly wedding march could have been chopped.

you give ab baby 2 long scenes in the climax but srk's farewell to his mom and his son's revenge is cut? is this a bachchan movie because srk had so little to say he disappeared from his own starring role!

please don't do this with my name is khan. if srk is the lead then show him as the lead. there is a lot of rumours flying that srk is a terrorist. please don't do that to us.

please convince yourself and srk that you must end your editing for under three hours habit. cut your songs to four minutes each and don't edit so much that you hurt the story as you did with kank. in the end you rob srk of deserved awards and leave us with silly words that would have made us cry otherwise.

only reservation is that this title might alienate the aam junta and non english-speaking segments and hence might restrict audiences to the urban and multiplex crowd. so i would think about incorporating some hindi tadka to the title.(obviously not Jaago Sid! but something fun) .. however if the limitation of audience etc has been taken into consideration already, then it's no doubt a fresh title, one that also gives a slightly artsy vibe to the film(people might automatically typecast it into the genres of films like Freaky Chakra(!) , Being Cyrus etc, which may or may not be a good thing but this perception could also later be dealt with through the right promos/marketing etc)

i am not a fan of your earlier movies - too much sugar - i say. So i was very apprehensive about KANK when it came out. then there were the bad reviews and word of mouth about KANK which made me run away faster. but considering the theme i decided to give it a dekko. And HONESTLY i was floored by the movie

Man - you just re invented yourself !! It was a ROCKING MOVIE

Great performances, Great scenes - TERRIFIC DIALOGUES and FANTASTIC DIRECTION !!

i really fail to understand why the cinema going public didnt appreciate the movie.

i think it was a very mature movie - however the only grouse i have about the movie is with the climax where you showed Rani n Shahrukh getting together and living a happy life.

i think the ending should have been either that they stay separate or get married and realise that the shortcomings are in themselves rather than their spouses which is why their marriage was a failure and they should have worked hard on their marriage. i remember you mentioning on NDTV's We the People that the ending was changed to suit for a commercial reason. Guess when you experiment - you got to go all the way. Maybe the audience didnt expect Karan to move away from the chocolate sugar coated stories

But i loved your experiment - you made me think - which is how i like my movies.

Waiting for another thinking episode !! You need someone to defend KANK - Im ur man !!

Hi Karan, Of all your movies I personally like Kabhi Alvida na Kehna. However, I have always wondered how the script would be if Rhea hadn't slapped SRK and both of them had decided to work things out between themselves. I ask also because I am in Rhea's situation and have decided to work it out. Do you think you can make another movie on those lines. I personally know a number of spouses who have decided to forgive. Of course, it is quiet impossible to forget. Hope you make another movie on the issue, since mostly in real life, it is the Silsila ending which rules. for better or for worse. Thanks, Sonu
